Heraclio Alfaro Finca Estarijo 2016
Heraclio Alfaro Finca Estarijo 2016
Descriptions
The harvest was late, as they often were in the past. The year was impacted by the hot, dry summer weather, but fortunately, there were sufficient water reserves accumulated over the winter.
The weather in September and October is what really determined the quality of the harvest. Moderate rainfall in late September, followed by a cool, dry October, resulted in wines with very nice levels of acidity, alcohol, aromas, etc.
Tasting Notes:
The Graciano, the dominant varietal, gives the wine an intense color, verve, and freshness, along with aromas of black fruit and licorice characteristic of the varietal. After three years bottle aging, the delicate balsamic aromas of Graciano appear. Over time, the powerful tannins have transformed into a soft, delicate mouthfeel. Heraclio Alfaro Finca Estarijo is a fine, elegant wine in which the character of the Graciano dominates, but is in harmony and balance with the Garnacha, Tempranillo, and Mazuela, the traditional Eastern Rioja varieties.
Food Pairing:
Traditional stews or casseroles such as beans with quail, and Rioja-style and even spicy potatoes. Fresh vegetable stews, lamb chops cooked over vine shoots, game, cold meats, Rioja-style cod, baked fish, sautéed mushrooms, or in stews or omelettes.
